Verizon is a New York City-based telecommunications company. Founded in 1983 as Bell Atlantic, this major global brand is headed by chairman and CEO Lowell McAdam, who is a licensed professional engineer. He joined the company in 2000. Since its inception, the organization has provided communications products through its subsidiaries. Verizon owns media corporation AOL and the mobile phone company Verizon Wireless. Between 2005 and 2010, the brand invested in wireless technology in several U.S. states and spun off several wirelines. Financial experts valued a merger with Frontier Communications at $8.6 billion. In 2016, Verizon agreed to purchase internet services company Yahoo! for $4.83 billion in one of the biggest financial acquisitions of the year. Verizon wanted to merge Yahoo with AOL, although they delayed the deal in January 2017. Verizon has more than 160,000 employees and continues to invest in new technologies. The company is a corporate component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world.
Verizon provides various telecommunications products, including telephone and internet services. Verizon Wireless, for example, was formed in 2000 and is the biggest wireless telecommunications provider in the United States. Verizon also offers voice and data communications products, long distance voice services, cloud services, and security and managed network services. The company provides these services to consumers and business customers around the world. Some of the company’s most popular products include Verizon Cloud, which backs up valuable data and photos in the cloud; Verizon Fios, which offers customers internet, phone and television services over a fiber-optic communications network; and Verizon Enterprise Solutions, a provider of networks, data centers, and connected devices for business and government clients. In recent years, the company has also branched out into video advertising, with products like go90. This service helps advertisers reach customers through editorial content.
Since Verizon was formed, the company has won various awards. In 2016, they received the Global Traveler Survey award for best wireless service for the ninth year in a row. Then, RootMetrics voted Verizon as the no. 1 internet network in the U.S. based on reliability, data network performance, and speed. Also in 2016, Verizon Enterprise Solutions scooped the North American Frost and Sullivan Award for Market Leadership. They won this honor for their voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and session initiation protocol (SIP) services. Verizon has won awards for its customer service, products and services, and technological innovations.
Founded in 2002 under the name Agilsys, Infor software has shifted over the past five years to become a crucial player in niche, cloud-based business software. Infor specializes in “micro-verticals,” or building industry-specific applications to meet the needs of its customers, which include creative agencies, science labs, digital engineering, and educational programs. Infor currently has over 90,000 corporate clients operating in 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Infor CloudSuite is a series of cloud-based applications built from the ground up. With each app, Infor uses Amazon Web Services to provide a strong, stable basis to create unique and localized programs to fit industry needs and standards. Infor offers several different modes for accessing the programs: users can access their software entirely in the cloud, from the premises (and local services), or through a hybrid combination of the two.
For example, in the healthcare industry, Infor manages the specific needs of healthcare providers, which allows organizations to improve care and lower cost. Its Cloverleaf program streamlines patient data and manages electronic medical records. In another example, its Hospitality software allows users to create detailed guest histories and preference profiles, automate housekeeping, and log incidents.
PC Magazine notes that Infor ERP Visual (for Manufacturing) “offers cost effective ERP that is quick to implement, delivering a rapid return on investment (ROI). It is simple, easy to use and offers end to end functionality for manufacturing operations.” Infor has won many awards for its highly-specified products, including an SIIA CODiE Award for 2014 Best Healthcare IT Solution and Best Business Solution. In 2016, Plant Engineering named Infor’s EAM “Product of the Year.”
