Troubleshooting Tips for
EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition
Use these tips to help you work through problems installing and using EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition.
Verifying your computer before installing
EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition
Verifying your operating system version
EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition runs on Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (or higher), and Windows XP Professional.
To check which operating system (and which service pack) you are running on your computer, follow these steps:
- Open your Windows Start menu and select Run...
- Locate the Open field in the Run window, type "msinfo32", and click the OK button
- Click on System Summary title in the System Information window.
- Verify that OS Name and Version meet the required levels. To install the latest Service Pack for Windows 2000, please contact your system administrator or visit Microsoft Windows Update web site.
Verifying administrative privileges
EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition runs on multi-user operating systems like Windows 2000, and XP Professional. On such operating systems, each user has different privileges. To install EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition, you must have administrator privileges on your personal computer. You may need to contact your system administrator to receive these privileges.
Checking your processor speed
EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition runs on any processor speed. Of course, EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition performs best on computers with fast processors.
To check the speed of your processor, follow these steps:
- Open your Windows Start menu and select Run...
- Locate the Open field in the Run window and type "explorer" and click the OK button
- Locate My Computer on the left side of your window, right-click on the My Computer icon, and choose Properties
- Click on the General tab in System Properties window, if necessary.
The General tab of the System Properties window tells you the speed of your processor. For good EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition performance, we recommend a Pentium 4 or equivalent processor running at 2.4 GHz.
Verifying sufficient RAM
Windows uses Random Access Memory (RAM) to run EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition, the RDBMS, Internet Information Server (IIS), and your applications. EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition (and especially the RDBMS) requires ample RAM to run correctly.
To check how much RAM you have on your computer, follow these steps:
- Open your Windows Start menu and select Run...
- Locate the Open field in the Run window, type "msinfo32", and click the OK button
- Click on System Summary title in the System Information window.
- Verify that Total Physical Memory meets the required levels. We recommend that you have 1 GB (1,024 MB) of RAM on your computer.
Verifying sufficient hard disk space
EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition and its preconfigured RDBMS require less than 2 GB of hard disk space on the install target disk. Additionally the EnterpriseTenFold SOA Personal Edition installer requires about 300 MB of free space on your system disk (typically C:). Of course, if you develop many applications or if you have large amounts of applications data, you may require considerably more disk space.
To check how much hard disk space you have on your computer, follow these steps:
- Open your Windows Start menu and select Run...
- Locate the Open field in the Run window and type "explorer" and click the OK button
- Locate My Computer on the left side of your window, double-click on the My Computer icon
- Locate your local hard drive (typically named "Local Disk"), right-click on its icon, and choose Properties
- Click on the General tab in the Properties window, if necessary. The General tab of the Properties window tells you how much free space you have on your hard disk. We recommend 3.0 GB of free space on your hard disk to accommodate large applications.
Configuring IIS web server
When you use a TenFold-powered application, you can use a powerful Windows user interface or you can use an industry-standard Web browser. To use a browser, you must configure your Internet Information Server (IIS) so that your web pages can run both scripts and executables.
To ensure that you have IIS installed on your Windows 2000 or XP machine, follow these steps:
- Open your Windows Start menu, click Settings if necessary, and click Control Panel
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs and click on the Add/Remove Windows Components tab
- Scroll to locate Internet Information Services (IIS) in the list of Windows components. If the checkbox next to Internet Information Services (IIS) is checked then you have IIS installed
- If you do not have IIS installed, check the checkbox next to IIS in the last step above. You may need your Windows CD to install IIS.
For directions on how to configure IIS for your Windows 2000 or XP machine, consult your system administrator or follow these steps:
- Open the Start menu and click Run...
- Locate the Open field in the Run window and type "inetmgr" and click the OK button
- In the Internet Information Services window, locate your computer's name on the left and click on the [+] by your computer's name
- Click on the [+] next to Web Sites under your computer's name (for Windows XP only)
- Click on Default Web Site under your computer's name and verify that the Stop button (a rectangle on the toolbar at the top of the Internet Information Services window) is black and the Play button (a right-arrow on the toolbar) is gray. If the Play button is black, click the Play button to start IIS on your machine.
Right-click on Default Web Site and select Properties
- Click on the Home Directory tab in the Properties window, if necessary
- On the Home Directory tab, select "Scripts and Executables" from the Execute Permissions pull-down dialog then click the OK button

Configuring your e-mail server
When you use a TenFold-powered application, you can send e-mail and text message alerts. To enable this functionality, you need to have a configured e-mail program.
To configure Outlook to send and receive mail, follow these directions: (Note: your Outlook setup and configuration procedures may be different than this, depending upon the version of Outlook you are using. Please contact your IT administrator if you have any questions.)
- Find your Internet Service Provider (ISP) Incoming mail (POP3) and the Outgoing mail (SMTP) addresses. You can usually find this information on your ISP's web page or by calling them.
- Open your Windows Start menu and click on Programs
- On the list of Programs, look for Outlook Express and select it
- Click on Tools and then Accounts. Click the Add button to add a new account.
- Enter a display name and click Next
- Enter your E-mail address and click Next
- Select the type of mail server (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) depending on the instructions from your ISP. Enter the Incoming mail server address that you received from your ISP (like mail.comcast.net, for example). Then enter the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server address that you received from your ISP and click Next.
- Enter your account name. This is usually the first part of your e-mail address (for JohnDoe@comcast.net, the account name would be JohnDoe). Enter your Password and click Next and then Finish. Test that you can send and receive e-mail by clicking Send/Receive.
Note: If you do not have a configured e-mail program and would like to use SMTP to send e-mail and text message alerts, contact your IT administrator.
